Bio:
Dr. Johanna Börsting completed her Bachelor's and Master's degree in applied cognitive and media science with a focus on psychology (Master's degree) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In her master's thesis, she dealt with the effect of persuasive technologies on the prosocial behavior of users.
She then worked at the Department of "Social Psychology: Media and Communication" (headed by Prof. Dr. Nicole Krämer) as a research assistant and doctoral candidate in the DFG-funded research training group "User-Centred Social Media".
She wrote her doctoral thesis on the topic of online privacy and user acceptance of technical intervention measures to protect individual privacy when using social media.
Afterwards, she worked as a research assistant and postdoc in the Department of Media Psychology at the University of Hohenheim (headed by Prof. Dr. Sabine Trepte). There she conducted research in the field of social media on the topics of self-presentation, media competence and political targeting. She gave Master's seminars in the field of media psychology, supervised theses and gave the lecture Advanced Statistics. From 2019 to 2021, she was also Editorial Assistant at the journal "Media Psychology".
Since December 2021, Dr. Johanna Börsting has been employed at the University of Applied Sciences Ruhr West as a lecturer for Applied Statistics, Social- and Positive Psychology at the Institute of Computer Science. Also, she is a member of the VW-funded COURAGE project.
